Albrecht Durer Watercolour Pencils

BUY ALBRECHT DURER WATERCOLOUR PENCILS HERE

Albrecht Dürer artist watercolour pencils allow one to create a variety of expressions when drawing and colouring. Top quality materials, combined with Faber-Castell’s long experience, ensure that these colour pencils are unsurpassed when used to create watercolour art. Just a few strokes of a damp brush and the colours merge in fine detail or over an extended area to reveal their full and unique brilliance. The pigments dissolve to a greater or lesser extent, depending on the paper, and behave just like classic watercolour paints. After drying, each layer can be painted for beautiful layering effects. That is the reason so many professional watercolour artists like to use Albrecht Dürer artists’ watercolour pencils for fine details. These pencils are great for mixed media techniques. They are especially practical for sketches when travelling.

The lightfastness (resistance to fading) of these pencils is unsurpassed. It is marked on each pencil by one, two or three stars.

*** Maximum fade resistance (100+ years) or 7, 8 Blue Wool Scale

** Very good fade resistance (25+ years) or 5, 6 Blue Wool Scale

* Good fade resistance (5+ years) or 3, 4 Blue Wool Scale

Only the best quality artist pigments are used for each of the 120 brilliant colours and 64 carry the highest 3 star lightfast rating.

The soft leads glide smoothly over the paper, without scratching. On suitable watercolour paper the drawing can then be worked over with a wet brush. (Do not immerse pencils directly in water.) The large-diameter wood casing prevents the fingers from getting tired, even when used for extensive periods and also protects the lead if the pencil should happen to fall on the floor. Albrecht Dürer pencils are glued over the full length of the wood casing by the Secural bonding process (SV) to protect them from breaking and to ensure easy sharpening.

HINTS AND TIPS

Areas of intense colour - Hold the pencil almost vertical and press firmly; you will obtain continuous areas of intense colour.

Shading - Hold the pencil at a very shallow angle with very little pressure. The individual strokes merge to give an area of uniform colour, but the texture of the paper shows through.

Light and Dark - Light colours are translucent, while dark colours have a good covering power. Overlapping layers of different colour produces a more lively effect.

Watercolour effect - Rub over a drawing with a damp paintbrush to achieve the effect of a watercolour painting. The more you work over an area, the more pencil strokes dissolve and merge.

Hatching and cross-hatching - If you draw a lot of parallel lines you quickly get an impression of colour; this becomes denser if you add more lines at a different angle.

Use of Spray Bottle - Spray a drawing with a fine mist of water; the colours intensify and merge to produce some interesting colour transitions, depending on the texture of the paper.

Colouring on wet paper - Albrecht Dürer pencils give a great deal of colour when used on damp paper. The point softens and glides smoothly over the surface.

Glaze effect – Transparent layering - Once the paper has dried the colours are permanently impregnated in it. A drawing can be completed with dry pencils without the colours dissolving.

Fixing - Albrecht Dürer colours adhere well to paper, so drawings do not need to be fixed.
