BUY POLYCHROMOS ARTIST COLOUR PENCILS HERE
Polychromos artist coloured pencils are valued by professional users all over the world for their unsurpassed quality. Whether in the graphic arts, for artistic expression, or for precise colouring of architectural plans, Polychromos artist colour pencils offer a convincingly high standard.
The standards of quality are set by Faber-Castell from the start. Only top-quality materials, combined with our long experience, can guarantee that a Polychromos artist colour pencil is of the highest quality.
Our pencils are extremely tough, have bright colours that flow smoothly onto the paper and offer excellent lightfastness, together with many other advantages that professional value. An increasing number of amateurs are discovering them, too.
Anyone who values good results and does not want to worry about broken leads, uneven colour or fading, will not be disappointed by Polychromos artists’ colour pencils.
The lightfastness (resistance to fading) of these pencils is unsurpassed. It is marked on each pencil by one, two or three stars.
*** Maximum fade resistance (100+ years) or 7, 8 Blue Wool Scale
** Very good fade resistance (25+ years) or 5, 6 Blue Wool Scale
* Good fade resistance (5+ years) or 3, 4 Blue Wool Scale
Only the best quality artist pigments are used for each of the 120 brilliant colours and 100 Polychromos pencils carry the highest 3 star lightfast rating.
Drawings made with them resist water and do not smudge. The soft leads glide smoothly over the paper, without scratching or smearing.
Polychromos colour pencils are glued over the full length of the wood casing by the Secural bonding process (SV) to protect them from breaking and to ensure easy sharpening.
HINTS AND TIPS
Areas of intense colour - Hold the pencil almost vertical and press firmly; you will obtain continuous areas of intense colour.
Shading - Hold the pencil at a very shallow angle with very little pressure. The individual strokes merge to give an area if uniform colour, but the texture of the paper shows through.
Hatching and cross-hatching - If you draw a lot of parallel lines you quickly get an impression of colour; this becomes denser is you add more lines at a different angle.
Light and Dark - Light colours are translucent, while dark colours have a good covering power. Overlapping layers of different colour produces a more lively effect.
Coloured backgrounds - The hues vary somewhat when applied to coloured paper; this can give some attractive effects.
Use of a paintbrush - By using a bristle brush dipped in vegetable oil or paraffin oil (e.g. salad oil or skin-care oil), you can merge Polychromos colours to give the effect of a painting. They are also soluble in oil paints, so they can be used to sketch out painting. The lines will dissolve when painted over with oil paints.
Colouring various surfaces - Polychromos colour pencils can be used on many rough surfaces such as cardboard, wood, stone, leather or metal.
Fixing - Polychromos colours adhere well and change very little with exposure to air and light. Caution: drawings should not be fixed, since this could cause the lower layers of colour to ‘bleed’ through.
